Isle of Sky Nursery -- Rains and cooler temperatures signal the onset of Planting Time. Prep beds for seeding cool season greens and garlic. Prepare planting holes and wind protection for trees, shrubs and vines. Fall planting allows root systems to develop without the stress of long hot and dry days. This is the best time to plant Dwarf Apple trees for a jump on next year's growth. My dwarf, heirloom Apple trees fit well into small yards or large containers. These bush-sized trees are covered with blossoms in Spring, leaves and fruit in Summer and colorful foliage in the Fall. Though some varieties are self-pollinating, most need another variety for pollination. There is a nice selection here in the Nursery. This is also a great time to plant both seedless grapes and wild grapes -- seedless grapes along fence rails and wild grapes to cover an arbor. The parent plants are loaded with grapes here in the garden. Come see how they are growing and get ideas for your own yard. Remember that ALL plants that create beauty require food and water to some degree. Why not plant something that provides food for you…. Visit the Isle of Sky Nursery and Garden open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm at 174 White Oaks Canyon Road, White Oaks.
