All American Post positions set (posted September 3, 2010)

The 64th season of racing at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico comes to a close on Labor Day with the 52nd running of the Grade 1, $2,050,000 All American Futurity presented by Sentient Jet.

Thursday morning post positions were drawn for the futurity and for Sunday's 37th running of the Grade 1, $1,548,076 All American Derby, the richest race for 3-year-olds in the history of quarter horse racing. Both races are at 440 yards.

JLS Mr Bigtime, the fastest qualifier to the futurity from 20 time trials run on August 19, will break from the inside post in the final. The 2-year-old gelding by Bigtime Favorite is a homebred racing for the Soileau family's JLS Speed Horse Ranch of Opelousas, Louisiana. The Soileaus paid the $50,000 late supplement to run the gelding in the trials after he was second in the Lee Berwick Memorial Louisiana-bred Futurity at Delta Downs on July 10.

Trained by Darrel Soileau, JLS Mr Bigtime will be ridden by Jacky Martin, who rode the gelding in the trials and has ridden a record seven winners of the All American.

JLS Mr Bigtime is the 3-1 co-favorite in the morning line along with another $50,000 supplement, Prospect To The Top, who will break from post four. The Coronas Prospect colt, who is undefeated in two starts for trainer Ralph Muniz and owner Joel Tavarez of Odessa, Texas, will be ridden by Oscar Rincon.

The starters in the All American Futurity, in post position order with their jockeys and morning-line odds, are:

1. JLS Mr Bigtime, Jacky Martin, 3-1

2. JD Baccarat, Rodrigo Aceves, 12-1

3. Miss Racy Jess, Ricky Ramirez, 5-1

4. Prospect To The Top, Oscar Rincon, 3-1

5. DM Streakn Thru Fire, G.R. Carter Jr., 8-1

6. Make Me Fly, Jimmy Dean Brooks, 6-1

7. Dominyun, Russel Hadley, 5-1

8. Cuz Iba Okey, Cody Jensen, 4-1

9. Mr Piloto, Esgar Ramirez, 20-1

Episode Of Fire, the sixth-fastest qualifier, will not race in the Labor Day final. She sustained a career-ending injury in the All American trials, in which she finished second behind JLS Mr Bigtime.

The All American Derby will award the winner $774,038, as well as a berth in both the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions on December 11 at Los Alamitos and the Grade 1, $350,000-guaranteed The Championship at Sunland Park on December 26.

The starters in the All American Derby, in post position order with their jockeys and morning-line odds, are:

1. Favorite Cartel, Cody Jensen, 6-1

2. Mr Truly Uno, Joe Martinez, 12-1

3. Smokey Stone, G.R. Carter Jr., 5-1

4. Apollitical Jess, Eduardo Nicasio, 4-1

Lobos wrapping up visit (posted August 17, 2010)

Are you ready for some football-in Ruidoso!   The Lobos are holding their training camp in Ruidoso and left campus for the first time in school history as part of a statewide initiative to promote Lobo Athletics.  Southeastern corner of New Mexico has welcomed the Lobos with open arms.  The Lobos are residing in Ruidoso for 12 days and hold their final scrimmage on Aug. 21 from 5-7:30 p.m. Practices during the week are being held at the White Mountain Sports Complex and
are open to the public.

"This year we began looking into the possibilities of holding practices off-campus," said Lobo head coach Michael Locksley. "We held camp off campus at my previous stop and it worked well. The obvious benefits to this are exposing the Lobos football program to different parts of the state and saving wear-and-tear on our own fields. The community of Ruidoso came together to make this happen. While our accommodations are very nice, this is not a holiday. It's all about work
and improving our program."

All the hard work will culminate in a final free scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Horton Stadium.  Fans are encouraged to pack the stadium to see the 2010 Lobos. Celebrate the beginning of school with a cool, relaxing UNM Lobo football game in Ruidoso.  Remember to bring a jacket for the game!

For more information about Lobo Athletics or to purchase your 2010 Lobo Football season tickets visit www.GoLobos.com. Tickets start as low as$72 for adults and $36 for youth.
