Sunday, February 5th - Superbowl Party at Grace O’Malley’s Irish Pub in Midtown Ruidoso starts at 4:00 p.m. with a menu that will make any football fan's mouth water.

Sunday, February 5th through Sunday, February 12th - The Mixx Band performs at WPS in Midtown Ruidoso from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. 

Monday, February 6th - Brain Stretching Forum to resume. The open forum for discussing ancient theories, modern dilemmas and current events returns beginning from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in Room 105 at ENMU-Ruidoso. There is no fee and registration is not required. Local experts in a variety of fields act as facilitators and participants are encouraged to bring their life experiences and opinions to share in the round table format. Areas of exploration include, but are not limited to, relationships, consciousness, the role of technology and the nature and limitations of knowledge. There are no prerequisites; only a curiosity and willingness to entertain new ideas. Refreshments are provided. For more information, please call the Community Education department at 257-3012.

Wednesday, February 8th - Turn a sweatshirt into art at ENMU-Ruidoso from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. April Joy Bailey shows students how.  Ms. Bailey came to Ruidoso from Albuquerque where she taught fabric arts. The fee for the class is $25.00 plus a $5.00 material fee.

Wednesday, February 8th - Free New Mexico movie - “The Left Handed Gun” shown at ENMU-Ruidoso in Room 111 starting at 7:00 p.m. Although filmed on the back lots in Burbank, this 1958, revisionist film stars Paul Newman as Billy the Kid and is the directorial debut of Arthur Penn. The title is based on a misconception drawn from a reversed photograph that Billy the Kid was left-handed.

Thursday, February 9th - Film—A Murder of Crows-Birds with an Attitude at the Ruidoso Public Library at 4:00 p.m. Crows are among the most intelligent species, able to use tools and use intricate communication. Very social, they mate for life and take 5 years to raise their young. Come learn more about this fascinating bird. 60 minutes PBS After school program for kids and adults.

Friday, February 10th - Adobe Photoshop basics at ENMU-Ruidoso from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Robert Walshe teaches the basics of the photo-editing program Adobe Photoshop on. Topics include how to rejuvenate old photos and create new art using this versatile computer program. The fee is $45.00 or $35.00 for seniors.

Saturday, February 11th - Book talk “Perceptions” by Luddy Leong at the Ruidoso Public Library at 10:00 a.m. Mel Faure has 'No Light Perception', the term for total blindness. She lives within a black space. When she can figure out what will happen, she’s calm. When unexpected incidents crop up, the black space intimidates her. Her husband divorces her, saying she’s not the same person he married. She knows she is. She still wants to be a mother. When she falls in love with a woman, her chances for having a baby become slimmer.

Saturday, February 11th - The Polar Bear Ride and Drive hosted by the Alamogordo Optimist Club to raise funds for its Childhood Cancer Campaign and will provide funds to help pay the medical expenses of childhood cancer victim Julie Wolfe and other projects that benefit the Children of Otero County.  The ride will be a Poker Ride with five stations: beginning at the Alamogordo Cycle Center , Three Rivers Trading Post and Gallery, the Valley of Fire , the Tularosa Travel Center and back to the Alamogordo Cycle Center .  At each station along the route riders will receive a playing card, and the high hand will win a cash prize.  This is the first time that the Alamogordo Optimist Club will host the Polar Bear Ride and Drive and they hope that this can become an annual event.  Convertible owners and antique car drivers are welcome to participate.  The entry fee for the ride is $40.00 per bike or car and will include a BBQ Brisket Lunch for two people ($10.00 per additional passenger or rider).  The ride will begin and end at the Alamogordo Cycle Center , 21070 US Highway 70. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m. with last participants on the road by 10:00 a.m.  The BBQ Brisket Lunch will be provided by Alamogordo Cycle Center .  The Polar Bear Ride and Drive is sponsored by First National Bank, The Three Rivers Trading Post Gallery, The Tularosa Travel Center, and Burt Broadcasting.  In the event of inclement weather, the ride will be held on February 18.

The Peace Studies program at the University of New Mexico has roots of understanding from psychology, business management and political science theory.  The focus of Peace Studies will be on human rights, international conflict and peace-making, mediation and non-violent social movements.  Join in discussion of these social issues such as public health, immigration, human rights, faith and community, education, social justice and community solidarity.  Help resolve and find solutions.

Saturday, March 10th  - Introduction to Meditation at the Ruidoso Public Library at 11:00 a.m. John Cianciosi, author, The Meditative Path. Visting speaker from the National Headquarters of the Theosophical Society in American in Wheaton , Illinois . Meditation is a systematic training of the mind for cultivating inner peace and outer harmony. In this workshop, John Cianciosi will offer participants an overview of the theory and practice of meditation.  This presentation follows his book, The Meditative Path. Find out about simple relaxation techniques for relieving stress; the use of mindfulness of breathing to calm and concentrate the mind;  and ways to cultivate awareness in daily life.  Join in a guided meditation, followed by discussion.

Friday, March 16th Marty Stuart & The Fabulous Superlatives at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. ($79 & $76). Barn-burning honky tonk and hillbilly rock is the hallmark country roots sound of Marty Stuart, the four-time Grammy winning star who first became a chart-topper in the 90s. Saturday, March 24th - 1st Annual Hook & Ladder Firefighter Chili Cook Off  from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Wingfield Park , Southwest Corner of Wingfield and Center Street , Ruidoso. Firefighters from around the state will converge on the mountains of Ruidoso to battle it out for title of BEST FIREFIGHTER CHILI IN NEW MEXICO! The Hook & Ladder will be held at beautiful Wingfield Park in downtown Ruidoso, walking distance from shops and other entertainment. Live music throughout the day! Beer garden on site! The cook off is opened to any fire department in the state. Cooking will start at 8 a.m. Chili must be turned in by 12 p.m. sharp. Saturday, March 24th - Nonviolent Communication at the Ruidoso Public Library at 11:00 a.m. Jack Lehman, MA, LPCC, facilitator  from the Center of Nonviolent Communication . The Center of Nonviolent Communication founder Marshall Rosenberg created Nonviolent Communication models.  This presentation will follow the principles that are the foundation of his theory. Presentation objectives: 1) Discuss the domination paradigm at the heart of our current conditioning. 2) Share the four steps of compassionate communication. 3) How to make observations free of evaluations.  4) Discuss human emotions, their origins, their neurobiological function.  5) What are needs in NVC.  What is needs consciousness?  6) How to make clear, concrete, do-able requests.

Saturday, March 31st - REO Speedwagon hits the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino stage at 8:00 p.m. Rather than “rock stars”, the band prefers to be called “working musicians”. Saturday, April 14th Country Royalty: Jason Petty & Carolyn Martin Pay Tribute To Hank Williams & Patsy Cline at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. ($69 & $66). Jason Petty, the 2003 Obie Award winning star of Hank Williams: Lost Highway joins forces with Carolyn Martin, the 2008 Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year in tribute to two of country music’s greatest legends. Saturday, April 21st Spencers Theatre of Illusion at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. ($59 & $56) Honored as the International Magicians of the Year and the Performing Arts Entertainers of the Year, the mind-boggling Spencers brings a new twist to magic that infuses amazing illusions with high-technology lighting and music, a magnificent set design and dramatic theatrical elements. Tuesday, April 24th - Writing a Clear, Effective Resume: This two-hour workshop will provide job seekers with tips for creating a clear and effective resume. During the second half of the workshop, participants will receive personalized feedback and tips. You will leave the workshop with an updated resume to submit to potential employers. Saturday, April 28th - Coppélia Ruidoso Dance Ensemble at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.($28) A true marriage of romance and hilarity, Coppelia is a full-length, heart-warming story about two young lovers and a romantic toy-maker who thinks he has magical powers.  This original adaptation by RDE features gorgeous sets & costumes and outstanding dancers.

Saturday, May 5th - Gary Puckett & The Union Gap at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. ($69 & $66). A major force on the airwaves starting in the 60s, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap forged a series of massive chart-topping ballads with earnestness and melodrama. Friday, May 25th through Monday, May 28th - Horse Racing at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. The season begins with Friday through Monday racing each weekend through Labor Day. Post time is usually 1:00 p.m., unless there is a special day of races. Admission and parking are free.
